Task 3B & C

What is the theme of this suite
With this suite of idents the theme is festive/christmas. I picked this theme because it was easier to identify the idents that belonged to this particular suite, as it was festive seasons so there for they would all have similar aspects in them.
The theme that I chose is for BBC1 it can adapted well to seasonal change of idents as they are known for renewing their idents quite frequently.
Although the theme has changed through out these idents, the core idea and message was still behind them and this was the Circles theme.
How and or why does the theme appeal to the viewers? (for example, creating particular tone to target a particular audience type)
The theme appeals to viewers because the theme is something that is part of societies culture in western society around the time of year and also something that is celebrated (which is christmas) therefore it will be relatable to a mass audience. It also gives an indication to the season and particular time of year
How have they used the theme in different ways to create brand loyalty
They have carefully used this to create brand loyalty by using a certain season/time of the year. They also used a high demand show and hit sci-fi series Doctor Who as part of their suite of idents for Christmas, therefore becoming more relatable to the audience especially those who are fans of the series.

Explain whether, how and why the idents are information-led or entertainment led
The idents used in this suite are used for entertainment purposes, this is because christmas time is associated with joy and happiness, therefor the only way to express this would be through entertainment.
This lets the audience feel the full effect of the ident.
Are the idents intended to be used at a particular time of year
Yes they are, only around November/December leading into christmas time which is what all the idents in the suite are based around.
It is used to get people in the mood for the christmas season and also remind them that its coming up if they didn't remember. It was also a way to help relax the audience by showing something more entertaining and relatable to them around that time of year.
Asses - How effective the design of suite is
The design suite is very effective because its tone and diversity amongst the theme. Also because of its pace and the way it gets its information across without being to forceful and informative.
It also keeps the audience engaged because the idents are only there for a sepcific anount of time which is the christmas period, so the audience will be more inclinded to watch them as they will only be there on Tv for a few weeks.
They are also less compact and contain less information in then as they are just there to promote the channel and a fun aspect.

Task 2A - Opportunities

Creation of corportae identity
Due to the fact that there are now a number of different TV channels and programs, TV channels are no longer limited to what they can show and to a certain demographic.
Idents have taken part in helping to create an identity and brand for the channel to make it stand out amongst the many others that are around in the modern day.
The channels identity will have to be completely different and mean something to the channel to stand out and stick in the audiences mind.
For example, the BBC's old ident was based around the idea of circles, this was useful because it represented the fact that the BBC was a nationwide channel as a circle could represent the world, the circle factor also represents togetherness and unity due to the fact that it has no edges and is on going.

Creation of tone
This is what creates the feeling of an ident and atmosphere. This is key because it reflects the channels identity as well as reflecting its audience. It makes it very clear what the channel will be about through the tone of the ident.
For example in SumoTV's idents they all have a particular tone which is comedic and parody as they are intended to not be completely serious but still entertain their audience by making them laugh.

Encouragement of brand loyalty
Encouragement of brand loyalty is mainly based on the audience. Its mainly about the audience and channels relationship. For example the BBC's theme was circles, therefore to make sure their audience always recognise it is a BBC ident they will always create an ident relating to the subject or theme of circles.

Branding of content
Branding of content is an ident that will focus solely on one program created by the channel for example on Channel 4 The Simpsons had their own ident to introduce the program.
The ident starts of as if it is an episode of The Simpsons but later on reveals itself to be a Channel 4 ident as the logo appears through out the last few seconds of the ident.

Appeal to target audience
This is an opportunity because it can allow the audience to appeal more to their target audience. Often childrens programs are most likely to do this as they can easily add the characters used in the different TV programs to the ident and make it appeal to their target audience of kids.
This also may be easier for children's programs because it is easier to manipulate cartoons into idents quickly.

Task 2B - Limitations

Typography
Typography is a key factor because it is sometimes what makes the ident identifiable to the viewer. It can also add a lot more meaning behind the ident.
Typography is just as important as other key factors in idents solely due to the fact that it is often more illustratively orientated and can also contain a deeper meaning towards the ident as well as represent it. Typography contains the shading, style, textual style and size
A case of this is BBC three, the motivation behind why "three" is in lower case is on the grounds that it is alluding to the intended interest group. BBC three target group of this is 16-35 years of age hence the lower case three is which is indicating that the channel is of a more youthful orientated nature.

Aspect Ratio
Aspect ratio is the width and stature of the ident. The standard ratio now is 16:9 that is the average ratio in which most modern day TV's use especially for HD requirements.
Before this ratio size 4:3 was used, this was suitable for the type of of televisions back then which were often in the shape of a square. This mean the audiences view of the actual program would have been minimised. The ratio 16:9 ratio allows the audience to see the ident or screen to their maximum peripheral which is more realist to look at and will make the audience feel more inclined to watch, also allowing high definition television to be put in use

Resolution
Resolution is what makes the visualisation of the idents become more engaging to the audience, it is also what makes it more creative and show every detail in a way that will be relatable to the audience.
A particular reason why it may be a limitation would be because the fact that it could be time consuming and stray away the audience fro certain aspects.

Size
Size is one of the most important key aspects, this because it can give the audience an idea of what is more important and what is less important in the ident. For example the text being quite larger could imply the fact that the channel is either dominant and has a strong message to put across or that the channel is fun and the over sized objects/text could make it seem less serious to the consumer.
