Task 1 Research

My storyline will be nonlinear and single stranded, this is because it will focus on the life of one character but contain flash backs to previous points in his life. Each flashback will create a deeper insight to why he acts the way he acts and reveal more about the character’s persona. There will also be a twist closer to the ending of the story which will interfere with the premonition that had been building up throughout the narrative.
What is a hook
A hook is the thing that draws the viewer’s attention which makes them want to keep watching the film, this is usually within the first 5 to 10 minutes. For example, the hook could be something dramatic or mysterious which will lead the viewer to seek what will happen next in the story line wanting them to find out more.
A twist is something that usually occurs at the end of a story to surprise the audience and leave them trying to solve what actually happens for themselves. It changes what the audience thinks is going to happen to something completely different.

Research
Through the research I carried out I have decided my target audience will be 15 – 21 year olds. My survey showed me that teenagers and young adolescents (mainly female) enjoy horror more than any other genre. I also found out from my research that my target audience also mainly watch 18+ movies because of the higher levels of suspense, thrill and intensity. My target audience is also mainly aimed at teens because in most horror films the narrative is often based around teenagers or something youth related.

Pitch/Plot
My story revolves around a 18 year old teenager named Damian who is on a journey to find his grandfathers long lost watch that posses many powers, jut before he died he rang  to create different powers, through out this journey there is a series of supernatural events that make him have flash backs revealing more about his character.
The flashback backs also make him more aware about his quest as he cannot remember what happend in flashback until he experiences.

My hook will be that in actual fact the grandfather turns out to not be the boys grandfahter and turns out to be a duplicate - uses him to collect the watch for his own good whilst real grandfather is tied up.

Edit Decision List (EDL)

Edit Decision List (EDL)

This is a screenshot of an EDL also known as an Edit Decision List, this is a post production task in film editing. It uses this coded format to save it uses this coded format to save edits and footage so you can access and reopen it anywhere.
Secondly an EDL can be very useful because it can allow others to view your work exactly the way you left it as well and gain full access which will help them to make adjustments to it if they wish.
To create this, you need to highlight all the pieces of footage, export it as an XML to your desktop. Next your need to drag the XML file into Microsoft Excel and this converts the file into codes as seen in the screenshot above, this is how the data is stored.
As I said earlier this is a post production task so it can only be used after the film has been made
