Sometimes things in real life can spark a director s imagination and base their idea of something that may have happened in real life. This can be from either news articles, song lyrics even everyday life.
Andy Coulson jailed for 18 months over phone hacking
- 4 July 2014
- UK
Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been jailed for 18 months for conspiracy to hack phones.
The 46-year-old, who rose to become director of communications for Prime Minister David Cameron, was found guilty at the Old Bailey last week.
He was one of four ex-journalists at the tabloid to be sentenced, along with private investigator Glenn Mulcaire.
Five defendants - including former News International chief Rebekah Brooks - were cleared of all charges last week.
The sentences, all for conspiracy to unlawfully intercept communications, were:
- Coulson, 46, of Canterbury - 18 months
- Former chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck, 52, of Esher, Surrey - six months
- Former news editor Greg Miskiw, 64, of Leeds - six months
- Former reporter James Weatherup, 58, of Brentwood, Essex - four-month suspended sentence
- Private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, 43, of Sutton, Surrey - six-month suspended sentence
Mulcaire - who faced four counts - and Weatherup also received 200 hours of community service.
Reacting to the sentences, one hacking victim, whose son died in the 7/7 bombings, said his life had been invaded at his "deepest and darkest point".
Coulson was being taken to Belmarsh Prison in south-east London when he left the Old Bailey, the BBC understands.
Meanwhile, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed it was considering whether to charge eight people in connection with a second investigation into phone hacking.
The Metropolitan Police has passed a file to the CPS under Operation Pinetree, which focuses on the News of the World's features department.
This is separate to the recent hacking trial, which centred on the now-defunct tabloid's news desk.
'Intensely personal'
Asked about the jailing of his former communications chief, the prime minister, who has apologised for hiring him, said: "What it says is that it's right that justice should be done and that no one is above the law - as I've always said."
Downing Street said Mr Cameron had not spoken to Coulson since the guilty verdict.
Labour leader Ed Miliband said the verdict called the prime minister's judgment into question.
The News of the World was closed by its parent company, News International, in July 2011 after the 2002 hacking of Milly Dowler's voicemails emerged.
Coulson had denied the charges against him but was found guilty of plotting to intercept voicemails between 2000 and 2006.
His lawyer had argued his client did not know the hacking on his watch was illegal, but the judge, Mr Justice Saunders, said "ignorance of the law" provided no mitigation.
"The evidence is clear that there was a very great deal of phone hacking while Andy Coulson was editor," the judge said.

The presence of the security guards, three of them, was the first sign that Andy Coulson's freedom was about to be curtailed.
The guards sat in the glass-panelled dock with the defendants, while in front of them were rows of bewigged barristers.
Coulson was next to Mulcaire. The man who hacked for him. The man who the former editor, on oath, insisted he'd not known about until the private investigator's first arrest in 2006. Both stared straight ahead.
And then the judge, Mr Justice Saunders, arrived to deliver the latest chapter in the downfall of Andrew Edward Coulson.
The spin doctor, who once advised a British prime minister on image and presentation, displayed no reaction when sentence was passed, other than to swallow hard and glance at the public gallery.
The tabloid editor who hacked, and who escaped justice once to work in Downing Street, has got his comeuppance.
Sentencing the five men, Mr Justice Saunders said hacking had picked up "intensely personal" messages, causing "serious distress to the subjects".
He referred to the hacking of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler's phone, saying the News of the World's delay in telling police about voicemails had been "unforgiveable".
Those working on the paper, the judge said, "were using their resources to try to find Milly Dowler".
Annotation: This inspired me because the crime that had been committed was an unusual one and I felt as if I could interpret it into something great within my short film. I highlighted the parts that we relevant to me. I also feel like the fact that he got sentece could also play a part in my film. The sentence could be in correlation to one of the main charecters in the film who is a clone figure, this could back up the point that he feels trapped as someone else that he is not.
Box office
feature films that have influenced me are the Paranormal franchise but more specifically, Paranormal 5. This inspired me because it was all set in one location but still kept the audiences attention through wild camera movements.

Funding
Producers normally get there money through a grant, loans or from previous projects they have done beforehand. Most up and coming producers use a website called kick starter which is when you can apply for fundings if your idea is good enough.
Our community.
Kickstarter is an enormous global community built around creativity and creative projects. Over 10 million people, from every continent on earth, have backed a Kickstarter project.
Some of those projects come from influential artists like De La Soul or Marina Abramović. Most come from amazing creative people you probably haven’t heard of — from Grandma Pearl to indie filmmakers to the band down the street.
Every artist, filmmaker, designer, developer, and creator on Kickstarter has complete creative control over their work — and the opportunity to share it with a vibrant community of backers.
“Kickstarter is one of those platforms that gives you space to work with people who know you, love you, and support you.”
— De La Soul
Our mission.
We built Kickstarter to help bring creative projects to life. We measure our success as a company by how well we achieve that mission, not by the size of our profits. That’s why, in 2015, we became a Benefit Corporation. Benefit Corporations are for-profit companies that are obligated to consider the impact of their decisions on society, not only shareholders. Radically, positive impact on society becomes part of a Benefit Corporation’s legally defined goals.
When we became a Benefit Corporation, we amended our corporate charter to lay out specific goals and commitments to arts and culture, making our values core to our operations, fighting inequality, and helping creative projects come to life. You can read our commitments in full below.

Since our launch, on April 28, 2009, 11 million people have backed a project, $2.3 Billion has been pledged, and 104,015projects have been successfully funded.

We're an independent, founder-controlled company of 137 people working together in an old pencil factory in New York City. We spend our time designing and building Kickstarter, connecting people around inspiring creative projects, and having a lot of fun doing it.
We’re developers, designers, support specialists, writers, musicians, painters, poets, gamers, robot-builders — you name it. Between us, we’ve backed more than 34,000 projects (and launched plenty of our own).

How to Get Funded on Kickstarter

Build momentum behind your project before your campaign begins and set realistic goals (Photograph by Alamy)

Question: My company is contemplating a Kickstarter-style fundraising campaign. I’ve seen these kinds of things fail too often. How can I maximize my chances of reaching my goal?
Answer: You’re smart to plan ahead and do the best job possible on your crowdfunding campaign. According to data from Kickstarter.com, one of the oldest and best-known crowdfunding sites, fewer than 44 percent of posted projects are successfully funded, and most of those raise less than $10,000.
Making sure your campaign is appealing from the start—and that it gets seen—is crucial. While 10 percent of Kickstarter projects never receive even a single pledge, projects that raise at least one-fifth of their goal go on to be successfully funded 80 percent of of the time, according to the company.
Your work begins long before your campaign goes live, says Nathan Resnick, founder of Yes Man Watches, who raised more than $32,000 in January and February on Kickstarter to make wristwatches. The University of San Diego finance major started with a $15,000 fundraising goal.
“People underestimate the importance of telling everybody what you’re doing,” he says. “I called media outlets, I activated my network on social media and asked people to share it and tweet about it.” He also made sure that his Kickstarter page provided a prominent, simple way for visitors to share his goal on their own social media sites.
Because he had made early connections at watch blogs and sent them preview links to the Kickstarter site, his funding campaign was mentioned online on the first day it went live, sending him a flood of Internet traffic from around the world.
He was prepared. Three months before he launched his campaign, Resnick says, he began talking up his plans to friends online and offline, so they would come on board with funding and other support right away, giving him momentum out of the gate. He also set up a website, a Facebook page, and a Twitter account for his company, all featuring attractive photos of his watches. “Pictures are huge—so if it’s a physical product, make sure people can see what it actually looks like and does,” he says.
Ilene Ruvinsky, a co-founder of Don’t Call Me Ma’am, a Seattle skin care company, put time, energy, and funds into a video for her current campaign on Fundable.com. If your video is weak or doesn’t tell your company’s story effectively, “you have lost before you have begun,” Ruvinsky wrote in an e-mail. “Spend some of your own capital to get the help necessary to produce a thoughtful video pitch that showcases your products in a manner that makes them look viable and market-ready.”
It’s also important to set attainable goals. “Know exactly what amount you need for your launch and set goals accordingly,” Ruvinsky advises. “Strive to get the most you can, but keep your goals realistic.”
Resnick calculated how much money he would need to launch his watch brand and produce an initial minimum-order run. “We didn’t want to make the goal out of range by adding in additional costs that might occur later,” he says.
He also didn’t spend a lot. “It almost doesn’t cost anything to launch a crowdfunding campaign. My friend who was an amateur photographer took the pictures and someone at my university shot the video,” he says. Kickstarter’s fee was 5 percent of the total amount raised.
You will have to make a campaign to appeal for kickstar to make sure your shortfilm is up to scratch. this is important so they know whether to put there time in you or not. The website also advises you to promote your campaign to get more views.
The highlighted parts are which kickstarter offers and how they would like you to apply.
