Task 2A - Pop

Mise En Scene
It is often found in Pop music videos that the mise en scene is what helps to strongly represent the positive and hyper real image that the artist/label wants to achieve. It creates a good image for the artist as the audience will see it and make them feel as if the artist has even more power giving them more of a reason to look up to them.

Costume
What the artist tend to wear in Pop music (especially in this video) often represents the artist but adds a more watered down or eccentric flare to their style. For example in this video, Justin Bieber is dressed as a casual young man but with an expensive taste as show through the different designer brands advertised in the video such as Calvin Klien. This is done so they can still be relatable to the audience aswell as being hyper real in the video
Locations.

The video also uses some performance aspects as a way to lure the audience and give them an essence of what his actual concert will entail.
This music video is also like a montage of images showing off the singers lifestyle, this is how it promotes the artist because is it showings sides of the artist that is not commonly seen by the public.

Camera/Lighting
Most of the camera work used in this video is hand held to make the video feel more homely and even more related to the audience as theses shots do not have many professional aspects, even though there are other shoots which rebel against this idea for example the shots of him performing which seem to be steadily shot to capture every essence of the performance for th artist.

This video is very hyper realistic and targeted at young girls. The hyper realism come through when the girls are dancing on the street and the builders stop what they're doing to join in with the artist. Secondly when the public also stop what they are doing to join in with the dancing.
Vouyerism is also used to attract they're female audience aswell as their male audience. For young girls it is used to make them want to be and aspire to be like the artist.
The clothes that the artist are wearing a quite revealing and sexualising which will draw male attention as well.

The lighting used in some seems is quite intense and intimate as if it was shot in a club. This effect was use to make the scene feel more intimate and warming towards the audience. Also through out the whole video the lighting is quite dimmed and tinged.
The whole video has a performance aspect (as most pop music videos do) with common themes exaggerated. Their are also a lot of zooms used, I believe this was used to pay homage to an old style of film because of the beat (which has quite a 60s feel to it)

This music video is completely a performance video. But instead of him singing the lyrics he is interpreting them through contemporary choreography used by him and the dancer. The dancing allows the song to become a lot more intimate with the audience as it can be related to a first dance at a wedding even though this dancing is a lot more staged. Low key lighting is used to make it seem warmer and more relatable to the audience. The also use stage lights to give it a live performance essence to it. As touched on earlier the dancers could represent a couple getting married especially through their costumes which convey to the usual colours that a bride and groom would wear.
it can appeal to both audiences because they are both doing the same dancing.
It doesn't convey to the usual pop conventions because it lacks hyper realism and vouyerism, instead the only aspect it contains is choreography.
The camera movements compliment the dancing by following the artists from different angles and constantly moving with the artist for example panning, walking towards them by using a steady cam.
The video is also only shot in one location which is the hall which could also again be linked to the wedding theme again.
