SCP

Single Camera Production (SCP)

Single camera production is where only one camera is used to record a a piece of media. This is commonly used in films, tv dramas and occasional soap opera.
One of the advantages of single camera production is that it is a lot cheaper and keeps the budget low compared to using multi-cam, this is due to the multi-cam using several proffesional cameras which makes the total cost of it all considerably higher. Another important advantage of SCP is the simple fact that it's easier to capture, for example since there is only one camera no other cameras will be in any other shots and also since its only one camera there will be no hassle of having to check other cameras or rely on other cameramen. It also allows you to shoot more footage because you can get through detailed scenes quicker since it's only one camera.
This leads me to my next point that is it can allow you to create more realism in a shot and show emotion and detail because of the amount of footage you can take using this technique. This therefore means that you can keep retaking the shot to your liking which also means it can keep to the storyboard plan easier because you can adjust the shots to your taste.

A disadvantage of the SCP is that it takes more time and planning in pre production which could eat into your production time and be very time consuming, especially if you have a deadline and theres a high chance of getting sued thus will be a problem. Also a common downside in single camera production the 180 degree rule this can cause confusion towards the audience and may look as if they are facing in a way that they aren't facing.
Another disadvantage is that you can only get one and at a time there a lot more time will be needed for editing.
On the other hand SCP is good because it allows you to use narratives such as realist because you can easily create detail using SCP due to the fact that theres only one camera so detail can be applied and also narratives such as single stranded which soley focuses on a single person for example in skins where there focus on a single persons story and mulitistranded which focuses on a group of people. This is easier to capture rather than multicam because certain angles and camera shots can be carefully applied and adjusted to suit these narratives and formats.
